A Planning application for a new €180m commercial development in Limerick city, expected to be the largest inner-city commercial development outside of Dublin, has been lodged this Friday.
Limerick City and County Council confirmed it has lodged its planning application for the ‘Opera site’ with An Bord Pleanála this Friday afternoon.
The new 1.6 hectare site, to be developed by Limerick Twenty Thirty DAC, is to be developed over the next six years on Patrick’s Street/Rutland Street.
“With regard to the wider regeneration of Limerick, this is the project that we’ve been waiting for more than any,” Mayor of Limerick City and County James Collins said.
“After stalling before while in private ownership, it has finally arrived, I’m delighted to say, at this key stage.”
The Opera site is the latest, and the largest, project by Limerick Twenty Thirty DAC.
The group was created by Limerick City and County Council in 2016 to transform a number of disused iconic sites across the city and county into catalysts for economic development and job creation.
Over the last two and a half years, the project has seen the development of Gardens International, which opened last Monday, as well as the planning of a 250 unit housing development in Mungret Park.
Limerick Twenty Thirty DAC are also currently developing the ten acre Cleeves site.
The Opera Site will be fully funded by commitments from the European Investment Bank and the Council of Europe Development Bank.
